Blue Star Banner

The Blue Star Banner is a very important banner displayed by Americans with a family member who is active duty. The Blue Star Banner was originally displayed starting in World War I and was used as a symbol to recognize family that was away in service of their country. The blue stars, amidst the white field, represent each member of the family that is in active duty. See our Blue Star Banner @ http://www.cvsflags.com/bluestar.cfm

The Pledge of Allegiance is a vow to our Flag & Country.

Written by Francis Bellamy in 1892, the Pledge of Allegiance should be recited while facing our Flag with right hand over your heart. Recite our Pledge & remember the sacrifices of those before us. “I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands; one nation under God; indivisible; with Liberty and Justice for all.”

Proper U.S. Flag Disposal

We all enjoy the sight of Old Glory flying high, but what are we supposed to do with her when Mother Nature has worn her out? There are a couple acceptable options for disposal of a U.S. Flag. Many Boy Scout groups will take your flag for disposal, as well as most American Legion’s, and VFW posts. However, U.S. Flag code TITLE 4 > CHAPTER 1 > Sec. 8(k): "The flag, when it is in such condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning"

SEPT 9th 1850 CALIFORNIA INDUCTED INTO THE UNION

On the 9th of September the state of California was inducted into the union. The California state flag we know today is an adaptation of an earlier flag created by William Todd in June of 1846. Todd’s painting was mistaken by many native Californians as the word ‘Coc...he,’ a common term for pig, which was often uttered while viewing the flag. The flag also had a five-point star and the words “California Republic” on it. In 1911 California adopted its current state flag. This flag was based upon the original Bear Flag.
CVSFlags.com offers the California flag in a variety of sizes and finishes, so go ahead and paint Cali proud by ordering your California flag today. Call us or visit us @ www.CVSFlags.com

History of the Gadsden Flag

History of the Gadsden Flag

The Gadsden Flag is one of the most famous flags in the history of the United States. It is still flown today to represent the power of the original thirteen colonies that then grew into the United States of America. It was designed and named after the American general and statesman, Christopher Gadsden who was a respected patriot from South Carolina. The Gadsden Flag was also used as a symbol for the United State Marine Corps, as they adopted the popular motto displayed on the flag, “Don’t Tread on Me.” The bright, yellow flag displays a coiled rattlesnake that represents the thirteen colonies and their animosity towards the British government who sent shiploads of convicted criminals to the Americas. In return, the Americans sent hundreds of rattlesnakes to England as a surprise to the Brits for their “generosity” in sending over such criminals. The first Gadsden Flag was flown during this historic event as well as many other events later on.
In 1775, the United States Navy was established to intercept incoming British ships carrying war materials to the British troops in the colonies. The Second Continental Congress authorized five companies to aid the Marines in their mission. They carried yellow drums depicting the coiled snake and the motto “Don’t Tread on Me” displayed on the bottom of the drum. Again, the Gadsden symbol was used in representation of the thirteen colonies and their military power against the British.
CVSFlags.com offers a wide range of flags including The Gadsden Flag! Show your pride and support for our wonderful nation and fly the Gadsden Flag in unison with the US Flag.

Flag Illumination

The US Flag is the most widely recognized symbol of the United States recognizing our country as a nation, state and government with policies and ideas. It represents US; the United States of America, and should be flown with respect and with proper etiquette. There are many tips for proper display of the US Flag one of which is flag illumination. When flown at night, the US Flag should be illuminated so that the stars and stripes can be seen clearly from a reasonable distance. If there is no light to illuminate the flag, it must be taken down each night and never flown in the dark. The flag can then be flown during daylight hours. Because the US Flag is a symbol of respect for our beloved country, we must display it as such with proper lighting.

History of the US Flag

The first US Flag was created on June 14, 1776 by Betsy Ross, a seamstress and flag maker from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. George Washington passed the first Flag Act stating that the new, free nation needed a national flag with thirteen, alternating red and white stripes and thirteen, white stars amidst a blue field. The circle of thirteen, white stars represented unity of the 13 colonies and a “new constellation.” The shape and design of the American Flag has changed over time as new states have been added to the nation and as leaders requested the change of the flag. Eventually, the flag had developed and established its official design consisting of thirteen, alternating red and white stripes and 50, white stars representing the 50 states of America sitting amidst a blue field.

The colors of the American Flag hold significant meaning as well, representing the patriotism and spiritual qualities of the citizens of America. Red stripes radiate the fearless courage and integrity of the American men who fought for the freedom of our country. The white stripes stand for liberty and equality for all people. Today, each white star represents one of the 50, sovereign states in the greatest, constitutional republic in the world. The blue field sitting behind the white stars represents the blue heaven of loyalty and faith in America. Red, white and blue are now our nation’s patriotic colors and our country is recognized by these brilliant and meaningful colors.

CVSFlags.com offers a wide variety of US flags, even the original “new constellation” US flag ; a replica of the original made by Betsy Ross. From outdoor US Flags, to classroom US flags, and even US interment flags, CVSFlags.com offers many US flag choices for your specific wants and needs. Order your flag today from CVSFlags.com!

How to wash your US Flag!

Is your American Flag looking dingy? Have you ever wondered how to wash and dry your American Flag? We have the answer! Depending on how old your American Flag is will determine how to wash and dry it.
Newer Flags: Wash by hand/Dry-clean
Things you will need to wash by hand:
1. Mild Laundry Soap (Tide Free and Gentle, Cheer)
2. Stain Remover if needed (Shout, Spray and Wash)
3. Wash basin, sink or bathtub
4. Cool Water
5. Iron if needed
Fill a wash basin, sink, or bathtub with cool water and your choice of mild laundry soap. Scrub the fabric gently by hand by rubbing the fabric together. If you notice a stain on the flag, use a stain remover and scrub by hand as well. Most good-quality American flags for outdoor use are made with 2-ply polyester or nylon, sewn together with pre-shrunk cotton or polyester thread preventing the fabric from puckering and bunching up when washed by hand. Once your flag is washed, ring it out well, making sure not to touch the flag on the ground (touching an American Flag on the ground is a sign of disrespect to our country). Hang over a banister or lay out flat on a table to dry. Iron if needed using the nylon, polyester or silk setting. Make sure the iron does not get too hot for the flag fabric. By the end of your washing, your flag will look good as new! Many dry-cleaners will clean American flags for little to no cost depending on the size. Check with your local dry-cleaning company to learn of their policy.
Cotton Flags: Machine-wash
Cotton Flags are able to be washed in the washing machine on cold using mild laundry detergent. However, never put your cotton US flag in the dryer; there is a large chance of shrinking using heat drying.
Old/Valuable Flags: Dry-clean ONLY
If your flag is old and valuable never wash it by hand! Taking your flag to your local dry-cleaner is the way to go. Make sure you inform your dry-cleaner of how old your flag is and stress for them to handle it with maximum care. Dry-cleaning is also recommended for flags that have decorative, gold tassels and rope. Washing older flags or flags with the decorative, gold rope sets you up for disaster on all four corners of your flag. No one wants to look at a frazzled and frayed US flag.
CAUTION: There is chance that any of your American flags may bleed colors when washing. To reduce the risk of bleeding, wash with only cold water by hand or by machine. To test if a flag will bleed, place a corner of your US flag in a bucket of cold water overnight. If the water is clear, the flag should not bleed. If the water is tinted, the chances of bleeding are high.
